Classroom Policies
Homework
Math: Students will have a small amount of math homework each night, Monday through Thursday (excluding major holidays). They will be given an opportunity to begin the assignment in class if their classwork is completed. NO LATE HOMEWORK will be accepted (unless in case of an absence).
Reading: Students will also be expected to read 20 minutes every night, Monday-Thursday. A Reading Log will be sent home starting in September. Students will need to record what they read and a parent will need to initial each night. Other assignments may be given throughout the year.
Science/Social Studies: From time to time, students will be expected to study for quizzes/tests in these subject areas. Social Studies Weekly Reader crossword puzzles will also be assigned occasionally.
***If there is ever a reason homework could not be completed at home…please contact us by email or note explaining the situation. We are understanding and parents ourselves. We know situations arise that are out of our control.
Planners
Students are given a planner at the beginning of the year. This planner should be brought home each night and back to school each day that they are attending. The first planner issued is free to your child but replacement planners are $4.00.
These planners are a major part of parent-teacher communication. On weeks that your child is at school, please check the planner nightly for homework and notes from us. Ms. Coker and Ms. Potter will both put a face in the planner and initial it. When you sign the planner, you are indicating that your child has completed ALL assigned homework.
A PARENT NEEDS TO SIGN/INITIAL THE PLANNER EACH NIGHT (Monday-Thursday). Please, feel free to write notes in the planner if you ever need to share something with the teacher or have any questions/concerns.
Communication Folders
Each WEDNESDAY, a Communication Folder is sent home. They look different this year. Inside, you will find two pockets...one labeled “Return to School”, the other labeled “Take Home”. If papers are located in the “Return to School” pocket, please make sure to review their contents, fill out any forms, and return them in the folder the following day. Any papers in the “Take Home” pocket need to be reviewed and left at home. When Progress Reports and Report Cards are sent home, these are also sent in the Communication Folder. Communication Folders will ONLY go home on a Monday if it is “a progress report/report card day”.
Making-Up Missed Work
We both have a “Make-Up” Work folder housed in our classrooms. Your child will be responsible to go to the folder and find their make up work upon returning to school. Please get familiar with your child's PowerSchool account. You and your child have access to your child’s grades at all times. This is a great way to check for missing assignments.
Snack and Water
An individual sized snack may be sent in each day to have during morning snack time. YOUR CHILD NEEDS A WATER BOTTLE DAILY!! Water fountains are currently off limits. Please make sure that your water bottle has a secure lid and will not spill if it is knocked over. Also….only water please, flavor packets in the water is fine.
Bathroom Policy
We have designated bathroom times throughout the day. Other than that, bathroom trips will only be taken when needed. If your child has a medical problem which requires them to use the bathroom more often than usual, please send in a doctor’s note. It is for the safety of your child that we have this policy as we aim to keep your child under supervision at all times!
Prohibited Items
Please note that students may NOT bring in any toys, electronics, or electronic related items to school (this includes cell phones). These items will be taken and returned when a parent comes in to collect them OR on the last day of school.
Students should bring in money only when necessary. If you are sending in money, we encourage you to put it in a labeled envelope. It should stay in the child’s pocket or book bag until it can be given to the appropriate person.
